TAC launches Video News, featuring Thailand

0

After months of preparation, we have launched our monthly half-hour video news magazine, the Video News from TAC.  Our first installment, featuring a tour of Thailand’s cultural heritage now is available on our nonprofit streaming-media Web site, The Archaeology Channel (http://www.archaeologychannel.org) and is available for distribution on selected cable TV systems.

This inaugural installment of the Video News from TAC features a tour of Thailand’s cultural heritage by ALI videographer, Teal Greyhavens.  >From Chiang Mai in the north to the islands around Koh Chang in the south, this tour features the Hmong, Yao and Akha hill tribes; spectacular Buddhist temples; bathing elephants; traditional food production and marketing; and the monuments of the capitol, Bangkok.  Thailand is a country whose past and present coalesce in the lives of its people and the environment they have managed for many centuries.

TAC features Medieval Italian landscape

0

History and archaeology both yield essential information for understanding the Medieval period of Europe. This is certainly the case in northern Italy, where standing structures (some in ruins) and the historical narrative weave a compelling story in Canossa and the Lands of Matilda, the latest video feature on our nonprofit streaming-media Web site, The Archaeology Channel (http://www.archaeologychannel.org).

Matilda of Canossa, called the “Great Countess,” was a principal figure of European medieval history, an exceptional case for that time: a woman of international rank and culture. The lands of Matilda are an area in Italy with a strong identity distinguishing itself within the regional panorama for its environmental, landscape, and historical-cultural characteristics. Layers of deep history are attested by many archaeological sites, the standing remains of castles, and by numerous villas and rural dwellings.

This and other programs are available on TAC for your use and enjoyment. We urge you to support this public service by participating in our Membership (http://www.archaeologychannel.org/member.html) and Underwriting (http://www.archaeologychannel.org/sponsor.shtml) programs. Only with your help can we continue and enhance our nonprofit public-education and visitor-supported programming. We also welcome new content partners as we reach out to the world community.

Jeff Johnston Helps School Get Extreme Makeover

0

MOPAN member Jeff Johnston recently completed a week-long stint as night shift PA with the Extreme Makeover, Home Edition show that was based in Salem at the Oregon School for the Deaf. The big build for the show was a new boys’ dormitory and recreation center, shown in the background of the photo, and the show also did a major upgrade and rework on the school’s haunted house that’s a school fundraiser each year. The new haunted house includes a variety of automated mechanical, lighting and audio effects along with props and features that are as impressive as you might expect for a well-planned and executed operation. It’s definitely worth a trip to Salem to visit near Halloween. Jeff reports the crew were great people to work with and it was a terrific experience all around. This episode will air Halloween night.
